The election for campus leaders during the 2021-22 academic year will be held – on-line – during the week of Monday, March 1 to Friday the 5th.
In the case of the Student Representative Council (SRC), that involves elections for its Executive positions: the President, Vice-President of Student Affairs, and Vice-President of Downtown Affairs.
During the first week of March, you’ll be notified about the voting process, conducted using the Blackboard app.
Also, right now until Friday, March 12, application packages are available from the SRC offices at the main and downtown campuses for appointed SRC Directorships. For more info about those, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Editor's Note: As the sole candidate who filed nomination papers for this position, Nishant Mahajan has won the Vice-Presidency of Downtown Affairs by acclamation.
VICE-PRESIDENT OF DOWNTOWN AFFAIRS: NISHANT MAHAJAN
Thanks for taking time to read my bio.
I am very excited to have been acclaimed as the Vice-President of Downtown Affairs, to help students.
A little background about me: I come from Dalhousie town in Himachal Pradesh state of India. I completed my Bachelor of Science, specializing in Information Technology, in 2017 from Maharshi Markandeshwar University, Mullana. After graduation, initially, I worked as a PHP developer at Infowiz Chandigarh for a few months, after which I got an opportunity for a leadership role at Decathlon India Private Limited. I was tasked with managing the trekking department and expanding its business. While working, I realized how data could drive better business decisions and I became passionate about learning more about it. It was this that made me come to Canada and pursue my diploma in Data Analytics. Currently, I am currently enrolled in my fourth semester at St. Clair College, pursuing Data Analytics For Business. I’m also working with Movati Athletic as a part-timer, indulged with the inclusion and diversity group globally – part of a team of making change in the charter so that the decisions made by the leadership team favours everyone, and making Movati more inclusive and diverse where every employee feels a part of a family.
Besides work and study, I enjoy trekking, and have successfully trekked various mountains of Himalayan regions in North India. My last trek was Kinner Kailash, which was 21,000 feet high. Other than this, I was the captain of the badminton team of my university. Not only this, I have also coordinated several events at the university with an almost 80 percent student-participation rate.
As a leader, I believe in working backwards from students' needs, and making data-driven decisions based on what students want in the present – taking appropriate actions, while keeping the whole process transparent to students.
I'm well aware that, due to COVID, most of us are facing difficulty in finding part-time jobs, as many businesses are shut down for now. So, I will create an online page for free food, as it was earlier done by the SRC, where students can fill out the information and, depending upon the application, proceed to a pick-up date.
Also, I know most of us have less interaction with other course-mates, face difficulty in group-work projects, and have difficulty getting help in our courses. So, I'll create a platform where students from courses can meet up and interact with each other.
Also, I'll make data-driven decisions by collecting information from the students so that we can address the problems faced by the majority of the students. Systems would be kept transparent so that everyone is aware of what is happening.
Finally, I'll be sending out feed-back forms to all of the students to gauge how their SRC is performing.
I would work using digital technology to the fullest, and will reach out to every member of the St. Clair family.
