PRESIDENT CANDIDATE JORGE GUTIERREZ CALZADA
My name is Jorge Gutierrez Calzada and I am excited to announce that I am running for the President position of the Student Representative Council, or the SRC for short, for the 2020-21 academic year.
I am 24 years old, and I am currently in my third and last year of Business Administration - International. I was born in Mexico City, so I am here as an international student. However, I’ve been living in the Leamington area since 2008. So, I also understand the transition that high school students go through when coming to a postsecondary institution.
The last two years, I have been very involved within the college community by being hired to work for the SRC as a Director on the 2018-19 board, and currently as the Vice-President of Student Affairs for this 2019-20 board. Also, I am one of the members on the college’s Board of Governors as the Student Representative.
By working for the SRC this year, I learned and improved my leadership and communication skills. Also, I did training to be certified in ASIST, which allows me to assist those who are thinking of committing suicide. I want to do more events/activities and promote services that will help all students with any mental health issues.
Unfortunately, during my first year as a student, I did not get as involved as I am now, and I feel that I missed great opportunities. One of my goals as President is to improve the ways to get the message across to all students about the activities and services provided here at St. Clair. I believe involvement is the key to have the best experience.
During my years with the SRC, I have shared my ideas – and I want to encourage everyone to come see me if you have any ideas, suggestions, and/or concerns on what could help you have a more enjoyable experience.
Because I am an international student, I understand the frustrations and issues that most, if not all, international students face as new-comers in Canada. I want to incorporate events/activities that unite all of the students of St. Clair, from all different backgrounds, cultures, languages, and countries. I also want to help in any way that I can so YOUR voice can be heard, because all students are equal and important here.
As President of the SRC, I understand that the position requires me to meet with students, and I want to have an open-door policy, which means that all students are welcomed if you ever need help, either resolving an academic issue or even a personal matter. No matter how small or big you may think your issue is, I want to listen to you and help you in any way possible. I will work with all the respect and professionalism that is required to represent all of you.
I want to be YOUR voice, and help YOU have the best college experience so YOU can feel at home when you think of St. Clair.
PRESIDENT CANDIDATE CASSANDRA MAILLOUX
My name is Cassandra Mailloux and I’m running to be your St. Clair College Student Representative Council (SRC) President for the 2020-21 year!
I’m 25 years old, and completing my last semester in the Tourism and Travel program at the MediaPlex within our downtown campus.
I value life lessons, exploration, respect, and leadership.
I am active on the SRC’s Board of Directors, and volunteer for local events and opportunities presented to me within my program and throughout my community. Whether it be lending someone a listening ear or simply holding the door, I strive to help others in any way that I can.
I have seven years’ experience in the service industry, therefore I understand how to work under pressure with precision and accuracy. Customer service has taught me many professional and interpersonal skills used in everyday life.
That being said, I understand that the position of President of the Student Representative Council and the duties that the position entails are not to be taken lightly. I am not only prepared, but excited and honoured to have this opportunity.
Being connected with my classmates, professors, and peers is important to me as we’re all here for the same reason – to better ourselves, our futures, and pursue what is most important to us. One of my goals as President of the SRC is to aid in providing everyone with the student experience we all dream of – bringing us together in activities, celebrating our successes, and unifying our campuses. When I look at St. Clair College, I see community, strength, dedication, and a world of possibility.
I look forward to meeting you all and creating life-long memories of your time here at St. Clair College.
Please vote Cassandra Mailloux for your 2020-21 SRC President!
