On April 6, St. Clair’s Library staff joined colleagues at a dozen other colleges to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the “askON” research service – cake included.
askON was developed in 2008 by Ontario Colleges Library Service (OCLS) to provide real-time chat, electronic research and information services to students.
Connecting with the service on-line or by text (226-909-1522) allows students to connect with librarians at the participating college libraries, to obtain advice and guidance about ideal material for their essays and projects.
In 2017, askON handled 10,759 enquiries from Ontario students,
During the fall and winter semesters, the service operates: Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Friday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.. During the summer, it operates Monday to Friday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m..
The other major online service of the provincial college system’s libraries is the College Libraries Ontario “Learning Portal”, featuring “a wide variety of open learning resources, tools, and learning supports, accessible to any student taking a course at any college, at any time, province-wide”.
