The SRC Food Bank is located in the TD Student Success Centre at the corner of University and Victoria Avenues.
This is a FREE service for students in emergency need of food due to dire financial circumstances.
The Food Bank entitles approved applicants to receive a tightly restricted quantity of items (one bag per monthly pick-up, two for family situations).
Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
In order to use the Food Bank, applicants will be subject to a face-to-face meeting and approval process to determine need. This may include the filling out of a detailed questionnaire.
Applicants must be currently enrolled at the college at the time of both the application and pick-up.
If an applicant has infant/juvenile-aged children, he/she must provide proof by providing birth certificates and documentation that the child/children is/are residing with the applicant. Children over the age of majority (19), even if they are still living at home, will not be considered as “dependants” as part of the application process.
If a student is living with a spouse or common-law partner who is also a student, only one individual may apply for and use the service.
PLEASE NOTE ... The recent increase in enrolment has led to an increase in Food Bank demand, and the SRC finds itself being tested with regard to the extent of aid that it can provide to students. The SRC remains committed to continuing to assist students in truly difficult circumstances. To do that, however, it will become increasingly necessary to verify the information provided by applicants – and, perhaps, to direct some individuals to alternative services (such as financial/debt counselling), in an effort to make them less dependent upon long-term use of the Food Bank.
SEE THE SRC OFFICES TO PICK UP A FOOD BANK APPLICATION. UPON THE COMPLETION OF THE ASSOCIATED FORM(S), A FACE-TO-FACE INTERVIEW WITH SRC STAFF IS STILL MANDATORY BEFORE AN APPLICATION WILL BE FINALLY APPROVED AND PROCESSED.
The SRC welcomes donations of canned and non-perishable items to its Food Bank. Items past their labelled expiration dates will not be accepted.
Such items can be delivered to either SRC office: at main campus, in the Student Centre, across from the Tim Hortons kiosk; and at the downtown TD Student Success Centre (corner of Victoria and University Avenues); or phone the office at 519-972-2716, and we'd be happy to make a pick-up.
Here are the sorts of items that we attempt to keep well-stocked on the Food Bank's shelves: cereals/oatmeal/breakfast items; peanut butter; noodles and pasta sauce; Kraft Dinner; canned fruit (pineapples, peaches, clementines, mixed fruits, etc.); canned vegetables (corn, green beans, carrots, medleys, etc.); canned meat (tuna); soup (vegetarian and non-vegetarian); stews; and dessert items (cookies, puddings, etc.).
Cash donations are also welcome.
ALL ENQUIRIES PERTAINING TO THE FOOD BANK SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE SRC STAFF MEMBER WHO OVERSEES THE SERVICE, KATIE RIZEA, AT THE DOWNTOWN STUDENT CENTRE. EMAIL: email@example.com
